The game was released in March 2010 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360. It was first announced in 2006 as Metro 2033: The Last Refuge. The game was powered by the studio's own proprietary 4A Engine. 4A focused their efforts on storytelling and atmosphere, intentionally avoiding any multiplayer gameplay to achieve their goal. Glukhovsky gave the studio a lot of creative freedom. Glukhovsky chose 4A to adapt his novel due to the studio's location in Eastern Europe, and their expertise in developing first-person shooters. Metro 2033 was the debut title for 4A Games, whose founders had experience working on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl at GSC Game World. Players must also wear a gas mask to explore areas covered in fallout radiation, both underground and on the surface. In the game, players encounter human and mutant enemies, who can be killed with a variety of firearms. Players control Artyom, a man who must save his home station from the dangers lurking within the Metro. The story is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel of the same name, where survivors of a nuclear war have taken refuge in the Metro tunnels of Moscow. You could have corrected me in a calm and friendly manner, rather then being really hostile about it.Metro 2033 is a 2010 first-person shooter video game developed by 4A Games and published by THQ. Has this happened in other instances? I can't imagine the game was overly popular in the mainstream, hence why I've never even heard of it. I was not "spouting lies", I was just unaware of this game. With that in mind, no need to be a jackass about it. So that expansion in your steam library became a glorified paperweight. When the creators shut the servers down, the expansion became literally unplayable. It was essentially an MMO at that point in the sense that it was a special, online only, multiplayer only, DRM validated with special servers, expansion. It actually makes 100% sense that they removed the game from steam. I've never heard of this game, and was not aware of any such incident, so I looked it up. You might not have saved any money.įYI can anyone tell me if they discount the REDUX version if you already down the original version? They did this with Deus Ex Human Revolution.Įdit 2: Apparently Steam removed an online only expansion that required special DRM servers to play when the creators took down the servers, thus making the expansion literally unplayable. THOUGH it wouldn't be the first time Valve has done something stupid and/or shitty with Steam.Įdit: I'd also be curious what the cost of all DLC is compared to the cost of REDUX. I would personally wait for a press release or a news article with more detailed information about why this happened before jumping to conclusions.
#Original metro 2033 steam install#
Even all the EA titles that got removed when Origin was launched are still available to download and install to ANY steam user who bought those games before they were removed. Now on topic: Steam has NEVER removed a game from a users library unless that user has breached the EULA and/or acted maliciously towards Valve. Not sure if you've ever posted news topics before, but no offense - this is a terrible news post.Ĭan you please post a source link? Or some screen shots created by yourself browsing the steam store looking up the game? So what's next? Remove the game from my library and force me to buy it again because there is a new and improved version of the game!

Am not going to buy the game again (redux version) to get the stupid DLCs. What are they thinking!! I bought the game a couple of months ago without the DLC and now I want to give them my money for some DLC but it seems that they don't want it. If you want to buy the original non redux version of MLL or any DLC for it from steam well good luck with that, because I think they removed it.
